Shure E2C circumcision

As many already know, iPhone has a recessed headphone jack which blocks most of the earphones out there. I have purchased an iPhone recently, and I have the same problem. I have "circumcised" 2 mm of the black plastic cover on the jack, and now it fits perfectly. There is no exposed wire or any indication of build compromise. So if you are brave enough to take that Xacto knife to your beloved Shure earphone, let it be known that I have done it with success - I think I could have been a little more conservative, and took about 0.2 mm off from that 2 mm, but nevertheless, I don't see any problem with either the iPhone nor the iPod in its usage.
